Walter Enger

Walter Melvin Enger was a member of the Uni High Class of 1931. In his time at Uni, Enger was a member and leader of many clubs and plays. Some of these included being a member of the Hi-Y club, Thimble Theatre Guild, and Uni High orchestra, as well as being the Glee Club President.

After graduating from Uni, Enger attended the University of Illinois, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. Enger then went on to join the Navy and eventually became a Rear Admiral. Enger served in the Navy for 30 years, before retiring at the age of 59. Post-retirement, Enger became the vice president of De Leuw, Cather & Co., which is an engineering firm. For more information about Enger’s Naval career, see below.

Stolen Car?!

According to the 1931 Uni High yearbook, Enger got his Ford car stolen on October 18 of his senior year but was able to get it back on December 21.

Yearbook Prophecy

Enger's “Prophecy” in the yearbook was that he would be the manager of a lingerie dept of madame lucy's elite women's apparel shoppe, holding a 4 figure salary

Medals of Honor

Enger won the following medals during his service with the US Navy: American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal, Asia Clasp; and the National Defense Service Medal with bronze star.
