Uni High Oral History project

University Laboratory High School students have been working with Illinois Public Media since 1995 to produce radio documentaries based on oral history interviews. As a major component of their social studies curriculum, Uni High eighth graders learn to do oral history and personally interview people with experience in the field in question; afterwards, a smaller group of students develops these interviews into a documentary series.

Projects are generally done in two years, the first being dedicated to choosing a topic, finding interviewees, and conducting interviews, and the second to crafting a narrative from those interviews, and editing the audio to create the documentary.
